The  Left  Goes  Right

By Rabbi David Eidensohn

The Republicans and the Right defeated the Democrats and the Left convincingly in November’s election. The Gay Lobby was devastated by states that voted 11-0 against gay marriage. Now, the Left is determined to go Right. Gays and Democrats are going into the rural and religious communities that are the bulwark of the Republicans and the right. This may be more dangerous than the old strategy for biblical people.

The Gay Lobby tried to blow religious people away with storms of fury and demands. But now, they are going to smile at America, and hope that the warmth of the sun can do what the power of the wind did not.

The New York Times (12/11/04.AP - Democrats Gather in Search of a Leader) described how the Democratic Party had a meeting to determine who will be its next head. The five candidates called for "new ways to campaign on values and a strategy for attracting support in rural areas." One candidate "urged the party not to cede the debate about values to the Republicans and to look for modern ways to communicate with voters."

Clever people can argue about anything, especially values. The Gay initiative to rural and family value communities is worrying, indeed. Family people resting on our laurels in the past election are doing exactly what the Gay Lobby wants.

Another article declared, "Gay leaders try to reframe struggle for marriage rights. They’ll reach out to Middle America." (Chronicle Washington Bureau 11/10/04.C Lochhead). Gay leaders, says the article, will now:

Support Republicans and wean that party away from the religious right. - When we note that many Republicans are RINOs, and not interested in biblical and family values, this concerns us.

The gays will invest heavily in lawsuits, hoping that the courts will give them what the voters refuse. - No question about it, the courts are big trouble for family people.

Go on the offensive with state ballots on issues that benefit gay couples. - Again, considering that these ballots could be about civil unions and gay couples’ rights, instead of gay marriage, they just could succeed and propel the gays back into the contest.

Seize the mantle of religion and morality by reaching out to the religious community. – This surely is a problem. Religions are going softer all of the time on the gay issue.

Having mainstream gay couples meet moderate Americans and get them to support Gay Marriage. – Again, a good strategy, which should wake the family lobby up to combat it.

We thought that the past election, between right and left, was divisive and tough. Wait until the Gay Lobby and the Democratic Party plunge into the rural and religious communities. That should get the fur flying! What should we do?

When the left goes right, we should go left. We should reach out to the middle of moderate America, and even to the solid left, and explain that we feel threatened by Gay Rights, and do not seek to demonize anyone.

We should explain why HIV Confidentiality Laws kill many people and drive up medical costs and taxes. We should explain that giving the major medical dollar to cure gay diseases instead of cancer and heart disease robs most Americans of their health. This is especially true when we see HIV  thriving as it always was, perhaps even more so, despite the funding. We should explain that we fear Gay Rights Bills because they declare a Compelling State Interest that may demonize religious and biblical people, costing them tax exemptions, government programs, and perhaps jailing preaches, as happens in Europe and Canada. These issues and others are explained in detail in various articles on our websites at gendercentral.com.

The next battle will not be between red and blue states. It will be a free-for-all, with Gays going into rural and religious areas, and hopefully, religious and family people taking the battle to the left, the media, the colleges, the culture, and pro-gay religions.

The battle has begun.
